QUICK LINKS

Biliverdin hydrochloride is a bile pigment which is oxidized from bilirubin. It is known that there are α, β, γ, and δ isomers of Biliverdin hydrochloride. Studies suggest that Biliverdin hydrochloride can regulate the cellular heme degradation process by inhibiting substrates from binding to the the catalytic site of heme oxygenase. In addition, Biliverdin hydrochloride can be converted back into bilirubin by NAPDH/biliverdin reductase. Alternate studies show that methanol is an ideal solvent to use for spectroscopic determination of the non-α isomers of Biliverdin hydrochloride.
