    SEE ALSO...

Bikunin Antibody (3F1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Bikunin protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Bikunin antibody (3F1) is available as the non-conjugated format. The AMBP (α-1-Microglobulin/bikunin precursor) gene encodes a protein precursor that is cleaved to produce two distinct proteins, α-1-Microglobulin and Bikunin. Bikunin, also known as inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor light chain or urinary trypsin inhibitor, plays a crucial role in regulating proteolytic activity in the extracellular matrix. Bikunin consists of a light inhibitory chain covalently linked to two heavy chains, forming the inter-alpha-inhibitor complex, which exists in high concentrations in human plasma. This complex stabilizes the extracellular matrix and prevents excessive proteolysis, which can lead to tissue damage and inflammation. Bikunin is expressed in various human tissues, including kidney, heart, liver, lung, and pancreas, and resides in granules of connective tissue mast cells. Bikunin appears on the surface of pancreatic acinar cells, where Bikunin may help prevent autodigestion by exocrine enzymes such as trypsinogen and chymotrypsinogen. Additionally, Bikunin functions as a potent inhibitor of calcium oxalate crystallization, suggesting involvement in the pathophysiology of renal diseases, including urolithiasis.

Can sc-517024: Bikunin (3F1) monoclonal antibody be used to stain formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections?

    Asked by: Randy McDonald
Thank you for your question. Yes, sc-517024: Bikunin (3F1) is recommended for use in IHC with paraffin-embedded sections. We recommend performing antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6) and heat. The full protocol can be found here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/immunoperoxidase-staining
