Bifenazate, a carbazate acaricide, demonstrates exceptional efficacy in mite control at a concentration of 25 ppm, providing a 100% control rate. This compound acts as a positive allosteric modulator of GABA receptors, specifically the resistance to dieldrin (Rdl) subunit homolog TuGABAR found in T. urticae (spider mites). By employing a concentration of 30 µM, bifenazate effectively alters the GABA-induced response from an EC50 value of 24.8 to 4.83 µM. The utilization of bifenazate formulations has proven instrumental in mite control and pesticide detection. Primarily utilized for the management of phytophagous mites infesting agricultural and ornamental crops, bifenazate serves as a selective carbazate acaricide. This compound is a carboxylic ester resulting from the condensation of 2-(4-methoxy[1,1′-biphenyl]-3-yl)hydrazinecarboxylic acid with 2-propanol. Its role as an acaricide stems from its derivation from a carbazic acid and a hydride of a biphenyl.
