Bicinchoninic acid disodium salt (BCA) is a colorimetric reagent used for determination of reducing sugar and protein though Copper(I). Bicinchoninic acid disodium salt and Copper(I) form a stable 2:1 complex that has an absorbance maximum at 562 nm. It is used as a reagent in the colorimetric BCA protein quantitation assay in which Copper(II) is converted to Copper(I) as a function of protein concentration under alkaline conditions.
