Betamethasone 21-acetate also know as Betamethasone acetate is an acetate ester, a steroid ester, a fluorinated steroid, a 17alpha-hydroxy steroid, a 20-oxo steroid, an 11beta-hydroxy steroid, and a tertiary alpha-hydroxy ketone. It is a structural analog of betamethasone. In the context of biochemical mechanisms, betamethasone and its derivatives like betamethasone 21-acetate interact with glucocorticoid receptors. These receptors are part of the nuclear receptor family, which, upon activation, translocate to the nucleus and influence the transcription of various genes.
