beta-Sitosterol is a common plant steroid that possesses anticholesteremic properties. beta-Sitosterol has recently been shown to induce G2/M arrest, endoreduplication, and apoptosis through the Bcl-2 and PI3K/Akt signaling pathways. β-Sitosterol, a phytosterol, shares a structural resemblance with cholesterol. As a prominent constituent of dietary fiber, it falls under the group of compounds known as phytosterols. In-depth in vitro investigations have been undertaken to evaluate the potential anti-cancer properties of β-Sitosterol. Notably, these studies have revealed its ability to impede the growth of specific cancer cell types and trigger apoptosis within them. Moreover, β-Sitosterol has demonstrated inhibitory effects on various microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses, further emphasizing its potential as a broad-spectrum therapeutic agent.
