QUICK LINKS

β-Muricholic acid is a bile acid, a component of bile that plays a role in the digestion and absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins in the intestines. Unlike the more prevalent bile acids, such as cholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid, β-muricholic acid exhibits different solubility and receptor affinity characteristics, which can influence lipid metabolism, glucose regulation, and the gut microbiota composition. β-Muricholic Acid can be found in urine. It is used in studies of down regulation of transporter protein via ubiquitin dependent protein degradation. Furthermore, the interaction of bile acids like β-muricholic acid with nuclear receptors (e.g., FXR) and membrane receptors (e.g., TGR5) in the liver and intestines is a subject of considerable research interest.
