β-Glycerophosphate, Disodium Salt, Pentahydrate is a simple phosphate donor and is consequently a potent inhibitor of phosphatase. This compound promotes bone matrix mineralization when delivered to osteoblasts by providing a source of phosphate ions. β-Glycerophosphate has also been used as an additive in isolation mediums, similarly providing available phosphate to the isolate.
