β-Aescin is a natural compound found in horse chestnut tree seeds (Aesculus hippocastanum). This mixture of saponins consists of sugar molecules bound to a lipophilic aglycone. β-Aescin′s properties, as found in laboratory research, include anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous, and anti-thrombotic attributes on a cellular level, in addition to antioxidant, antifungal, and antiviral qualities. In a research context, β-Aescin′s role in addressing venous diseases and conditions related to lymphedema has been studied. The specific action mechanism of β-Aescin is not entirely known, but it is thought to function by limiting the activity of certain enzymes, like elastase and hyaluronidase, involved in connective tissue breakdown. Additionally, β-Aescin has been observed to decrease capillary permeability.
