QUICK LINKS

Bestatin hydrochloride is a reversible inhibitor of aminopeptidase enzymes, namely Aminopeptidase B, Aminopeptidase M, and leucine aminopeptidase. Inhibition of these proteins by Bestatin hydrochloride correlates to apoptosis induction in oncogenic cells. Bestatin hydrochloride is also a potent inhibitor of leukotriene A4 hydrolase (LTA4), potentially allowing investigation of the role of LTA4 in inflammation. Bestatin hydrochloride increases the expression of Akt, inhibits proliferation, migration, and invasion, and induces autophagy and apoptosis in 5637 bladder cancer cells. Bestatin hydrochloride offers promise because it protects endogenous opioid peptides against degradation. Bestatin hydrochloride is also known as N-[(2S,3R)-3-Amino-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyryl]-L-leucine hydrochloride, and [(2S,3R)-3-Amino-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutanoyl]-L-leucine•HCl.
