QUICK LINKS

Barnidipine HCl is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that functions by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into cardiac and smooth muscle. It targets L-type calcium channels in particular, blocking the entry of calcium ions into the cells. This inhibition leads to relaxation of vascular smooth muscle and a reduction in systemic vascular resistance, resulting in decreased blood pressure. By blocking calcium channels, Barnidipine HCl interferes with the excitation-contraction coupling of smooth muscle cells, ultimately leading to vasodilation. Barnidipine HCl′s mechanism of action involves binding to the alpha-1 subunit of the L-type calcium channel, thereby preventing the channel from opening and inhibiting calcium influx.
