Barium thiocyanate is a highly hygroscopic, colorless, water-soluble salt. It is highly toxic when ingested and is a skin irritant. Soluble in most alcohols but insoluble in simple alkanes. It is used for dyeing textiles and is also a component of some photographic solutions.
