This inorganic salt is extensively used in the laboratory and various industrial processes due to its unique properties. It is also utilized in qualitative and quantitative analysis to test for sulfate ions; when barium chloride is added to a solution containing sulfates, a white precipitate of barium sulfate forms, which is insoluble in water, thus confirming the presence of sulfate
