Avasimibe inhibits human P450 isoenzymes, particularly CYP2C9, CYP1A2 and CYP2C19, with an IC50 of 2.9µM, 13.9 µM, and 26.5 µM, respectively. These enzymes are responsible for a variety of oxidative metabolic reactions, particularly those that involve xenobiotics. Avasime is also an inhibitor of LDL binding and decreases scavenger receptor numbers during foam cell formation in human monocyte-derived macrophages.
