ARL 17477 dihydrochloride is a selective NOS1 (nNOS) inhibitor with IC50 values of 1 and 17 μM for NOS1 and NOS3, respectively. This compound has been shown to reduce ischemic cell damage after middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion in rats. Furthermore, ARL 17477 dihydrochloride has been shown to display a synergistic neuroprotective effect when combined with either an NMDA or AMPA receptor antagonist.
