Antibiotic PF 1052 is a compound that inhibits the growth of bacteria by targeting the bacterial ribosome. It binds to the 50S subunit of the ribosome, interfering with protein synthesis. This disruption prevents the bacteria from producing proteins, ultimately leading to their inability to survive and replicate. Antibiotic PF 1052 acts by blocking the peptidyl transferase center of the ribosome, thereby inhibiting the formation of peptide bonds during translation. This interference with protein synthesis disrupts the bacterial cell′s ability to function and reproduce, ultimately leading to its demise.
