Ampicillin trihydrate, a member of the penicillin family, is an antibiotic derived from penicillin through semi-synthetic methods. Its mode of action involves impeding bacterial growth by disrupting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. By binding to the penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) on the bacterial cell wall, Ampicillin trihydrate hinders the production of the essential peptidoglycan layer required for cell wall formation in bacteria.
