Amiodarone Hydrochloride is an antiarrhythmic agent. It exerts its mechanism of action by blocking potassium channels, prolonging the action potential duration and refractory period of cardiac tissue. This results in a decrease in the rate of spontaneous depolarization of the pacemaker cells in the heart, leading to a reduction in the heart rate. Amiodarone Hydrochloride inhibits the adrenergic stimulation of the heart, further contributing to its antiarrhythmic effects. At the molecular level, Amiodarone Hydrochloride interacts with multiple ion channels, including sodium, potassium, and calcium channels, as well as adrenergic receptors, to modulate the electrical activity of cardiac cells.
