QUICK LINKS

α-Cyclodextrin (α-CD) is a cyclic oligosaccharide composed of six glucopyranose units linked by α-(1,4) bonds. It is generated by the enzymatic action of cyclodextrin glucosyltransferase (CGTase, EC 2.4.1.19) on hydrolyzed starch, and is a non-reducing cyclic saccharide. It is beneficial for the solubilization of nonpolar macromolecules, including lipids, fatty acids, and cholesterol, making it suitable for use in cell culture applications.
