Datasheets
  • α-Actin Antibody (alpha-SM1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a κ, cited in 69 publications, provided at 200 µg/ml
  • raised against an N-terminal decapeptide of smooth muscle α-Actin of human origin
  • recommended for detection of smooth muscle α-Actin of mouse, rat and human origin by WB, IP, IF, IHC(P) and ELISA; non cross-reactive with actin from fibroblasts (β-and γ-cytoplasmic), myocardium (α-myocardial), and striated muscle (α-sarcomeric)
  • available conjugated to agarose for IP
  • See α-Actin (1A4): sc-32251 for α-Actin antibody conjugates, including AC, HRP, FITC, PE, Alexa Fluor® 488, 594, 647, 680 and 790.
  • m-IgG2a BP-HRP is the preferred secondary detection reagent for α-Actin Antibody (alpha-SM1) for WB and IHC(P) applications. This reagent is now offered in a bundle with α-Actin Antibody (alpha-SM1) (see ordering information below).

SEE ALSO...

α-Actin Antibody (alpha-SM1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects α-Actin in mouse, rat, and human samples through various applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). α-Actin is a vital component of the cytoskeleton, playing a crucial role in maintaining cell shape, enabling cellular movement, and facilitating muscle contraction. α-Actin is predominantly found in muscle tissues, where α-Actin forms part of the contractile apparatus, but α-Actin is also present in non-muscle cells, contributing to the structural integrity of the cell. The presence of multiple isoforms of Actin, such as α-, β-, and γ-Actin, allows for specialized functions in different cell types, with α-Actin being essential for muscle function. The regulation of α-Actin is influenced by various signaling pathways, including those involving small GTPases, which orchestrate the dynamic organization of the Actin cytoskeleton. Understanding the function and regulation of α-Actin is critical, as alterations in α-Actin expression or organization can lead to various diseases, including cardiomyopathies and other muscle-related disorders. With broad reactivity and versatility in applications, anti-α-Actin antibody (alpha-SM1) is an invaluable tool for researchers studying the intricate roles of Actin in cellular processes.

Can α-Actin (alpha-SM1): sc-130617 monoclonal antibody be used to stain formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections?

Asked by: TinTin
Thank you for your question. Yes, α-Actin (alpha-SM1): sc-130617 has been validated for use in IHC with paraffin-embedded sections. We recommend performing antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6) and heat. The full protocol can be found here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/immunoperoxidase-staining
