QUICK LINKS

Aldosterone is a hormone analog reported to be involved in sodium balance regulation. This compound has been noted to specifically activate MCR (mineralocorticoid receptor, MR), resulting in induction of O2- production via upregulation of Nox-2, Nox-4, and Cox-2. The oxidative and inflammatory results of aldosterone have been shown to affect glucose metabolism. It influences the balance of water, sodium, and potassium. As the primary mineralocorticoid hormone, aldosterone exerts its effects through the mineralocorticoid receptor.
