QUICK LINKS

Akt Inhibitor IV is a compound that functions by specifically inhibiting the activity of the Akt protein kinase. This inhibition occurs through competitive binding to the ATP-binding site of Akt, preventing its phosphorylation and subsequent activation. By targeting Akt, this compound disrupts the signaling pathways involved in cell survival, proliferation, and metabolism. As a result, Akt Inhibitor IV plays a role in regulating cellular processes and has the potential to impact various cellular functions. Its mechanism of action involves interfering with the phosphorylation cascade that activates Akt, ultimately influencing downstream signaling pathways. This compound′s ability to modulate Akt activity makes it a valuable tool for investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying cell signaling and may have implications for understanding disease processes at the cellular level.

What is the meaning of "a kinase upstream of AKT and downstream of PI3K" ?

Asked by: two2igm05
Thank you for your question. Akt Inhibitor IV, sc-203809, inhibits Akt phosphorylation during the AKT/PKB signaling pathway after PI 3-K, but before Akt, activates the ATP binding site on the plasma membrane.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from JeonJeon, SJ. et al. (PubMed 21314987) used product sc-203809 (Akt Inhibitor IV) to verify the role of the Akt pathway in the regulation of FMRP induction in HeLa cells. Akt Inhibitor decreased expression of Akt in a concentration dependent manner. They additionally used product sc-202048 (Akt Inhibitor VIII) and noted similar results. -SCBT Publication Review
