Aggregation Factor Antibody (B1822) is a mouse monoclonal IgG antibody that detects Aggregation Factor in Geodia cydonium by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and immunofluorescence (IF). Aggregation Factor is a crucial protein that plays a significant role in mediating heterophilic interactions and binding of homologous cells, essential for maintaining cellular organization and function within the sponge′s complex tissue architecture. Aggregation Factor has been extensively studied in various sponge species, including Geodia cydonium, Microciona prolifera, and Halichondria bowerbanki, revealing specificity in promoting reduced adhesiveness among different cell types from the same species. Aggregation Factor in Geodia cydonium is characterized as a proteinaceous compound composed of multiple glycoproteins that localize around a unique 90S sunburst-like core structure, vital for function. Aggregation Factor also contains galectin, a critical component required for cell-cell reaggregation, and a 140 kDa polypeptide important for facilitating cell-cell adhesion. The ability of Aggregation Factor to regulate these interactions underscores importance in the biological processes of sponges, making anti-Aggregation Factor antibody (B1822) an invaluable tool for researchers studying cellular dynamics and adhesion mechanisms in marine invertebrates.
