Agelongine is a bromopyrrole pyridinium alkaloid isolated from the Agelas longissima sea sponge. Agelongine is described to exhibit antiserotonergic effects on rat stomach fundus strip, demonstrating specific shifting of the 5-HT (Serotonin, sc-201146) concentration-response curve in this system. The antagonism of 5-HT by Agelongine is demonstrated to be reversible.
