Actinonin is a bioactive peptide and antibiotic that is a potent inhibitor of CD13 and Aminopeptidase (leucine aminopeptidase). Actinonin has been observed to inhibit PDF (peptide deformylase), meprin A, and thermolysin. This compound inhibits matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) such as MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-7, MMP-8, MMP-9, MMP-10, MMP-12, and MMP-13, but not MMP-14. Actinonin also inhibits tumor cell invasion and matrix degradation along with antitumor and apoptosis inducing activity in vitro.
