QUICK LINKS

Acid Red 4 is a red dye that exhibits various solubilities in different solvents. It dissolves in water, resulting in a red color, and is soluble in acetone, while being slightly soluble in ethanol (resulting in an orange color) and toluene. When exposed to strong sulfuric acid, it changes to a light purple shade. In an aqueous solution, the addition of strong hydrochloric acid causes the formation of a dark red precipitate, while the addition of nitric acid leads to precipitation as well.
