Ac-VAD-AFC is a fluorogenic caspase-1 substrate. It may also be employed as a caspase-3, caspase-4, or caspase-7 substrate. The reaction can be observed by a blue to green shift in fluorescence upon cleavage of the AFC fluorophore.
