QUICK LINKS

9-Phenanthrol is a metabolite of Phenanthrene, which functions as a selective inhibitor of TRPM4. TRPM4 are calcium activated channels, located in several tissues such as the heart, kidney, brainstem, cerebral artery and immune system. Studies indicate that TRPM4 regulates smooth muscle cell membrane depolarization. In addition, 9-Phenanthrol is an important tool to monitor the effects of this receptor on smooth muscle cells. Furthermore, studies on cerebral artery myocytes suggest that 9-Phenanthrol reduces transient inward cation currents, which are induced by TRPM4.
