8-Hydroxy Adenine (8-OHAde) stands as an oxidized adenine base, naturally occurring in DNA and RNA. This compound has facilitated the study of DNA damage and repair mechanisms, as well as the investigation of enzyme roles in oxidative damage. The formation of 8-Hydroxy Adenine occurs through the action of reactive oxygen species (ROS) on adenine. These ROS arise from various sources, including environmental pollutants and metabolic processes. Subsequently, 8-Hydroxy Adenine undergoes conversion to 8-oxo-7-hydroxyadenine (8-oxo-7-OHAde) through the activity of 8-oxo-7-hydroxyadenine reductase (8-Hydroxyadenine reductase). Further oxidation of 8-oxo-7-OHAde results in the formation of 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroadenine (8-oxo-7,8-DHA) under the influence of 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroadenine oxidase (8-Hydroxyadenine oxidase).
