8-Azidoadenosine 5′-triphosphate sodium salt, also known as 8-N3-ATP, is a modified form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) that has an azide functional group attached to the 8th position of the adenine ring. This modification allows researchers to introduce a photoactivatable crosslinker into biological systems. 8-Azidoadenosine 5′-triphosphate sodium salt is used in a technique called photoaffinity labeling or crosslinking. This technique involves the use of a photoactivatable compound (in this case, 8-Azidoadenosine 5′-triphosphate sodium salt) that can be selectively activated by light of a specific wavelength. When exposed to light, the azide group of 8-Azidoadenosine 5′-triphosphate sodium salt forms a highly reactive nitrene intermediate, which can react with nearby biomolecules in close proximity.
