QUICK LINKS

8-Azaguanine is a purine analog with attention in biochemical and genetic research due to its incorporation into nucleic acids. Its structure, resembling guanine with a nitrogen atom replacing the carbon at the 8th position, allows it to act as a mutagen, making it a useful agent for inducing mutations in genetic studies. Researchers employ 8-Azaguanine to understand the consequences of base-pair substitutions in DNA, thereby contributing to our knowledge of mutational processes and DNA repair mechanisms. In studies of RNA, it is used to investigate the effects of altered bases on the structure and function of RNA molecules. In addition, 8-Azaguanine is utilized in the field of enzymology to probe the specificity of enzymes such as polymerases and nucleases that interact with nucleic acids.

My client has currently using below:-We purchase 8-aza-guanine from Sigma in a pack of dark-bottled 50 mg quantities. We then reconstitute the 50 mg of 8-aza-guanine in the same bottle. We use it in cell-culture."Can you advise whether packaging is same?

Asked by: Prisha
Thank you for your question. sc-207194 is supplied in a single 4 ml amber vial.

Is it work in cell culture (myeloma selection ) ?

Asked by: Erick
Thank you for your question. This product has not been specifically tested for cell culture use and is not cell culture grade, however, most products can still be used in cell culture applications by following basic cell culture protocols, e.g. using cell culture grade/sterilized solvents, aseptic technique, and sterilely filtering in a sterile hood. If there is a graded product that you would like us to consider adding, please provide a technical service representative with all of the pertinent information needed including, name, CAS number, size, number of vials needed, grade/expected uses, and any additional information like, purity/potency and native source. If you have any further questions, please contact our Asia Technical Service team. You can reach them by phone at (86 21) 6093-6350, by email at: asia@scbio.cn or by live chat directly on our website, www.scbt.com

Rated 1 out of 5 by from problems with solubility of the 8-AzaguanineThe lot of 8-Azaguanine that I purchased was not soluble at recommended conditions. The company replaced product with another lot- still same problem. Will be switching to another supplier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GongGong, QL. et al. (PubMed 21541747) studied the interaction between 8-Azaguanine (8-Azan) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) using fluorescence and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy. The results showed that the forces acting between 8-Azan and BSA were typical hydrophobic forces, and that the interaction process was spontaneous. The interaction distance r between 8-Azan and BSA, evaluated according to fluorescence resonance energy transfer theory, suggested that there is a high possibility of energy transfer from BSA to 8-Azan. -SCBT Publication Review
