QUICK LINKS

7-Methyl-6-thioguanosine (MESG) forms 7-methyl-6-thioguanine (Abs = 355 nm) in the presense of inorganic phosphate and purine nucleoside phosphorylase (PNP) therefore, it is useful as a fast and sensitive assay for phosphate. MESG is a chromophoric substrate that may be used to detect inorganic pyrophosphate as well. Furthermore, it can be utilized to measure changes in inorganic phosphate levels in coupled enzyme systems, including assays of the activities of protein phosphatases, phosphorylase kinases, GTPases, and ATPases.
