6-Methoxy-2-Naphthylacetic acid is a competitive inhibitor of Cox (cyclooxygenase). 6-Methoxy-2-Naphthylacetic acid is selective for Cox-2 (IC50 = 15-55 μM) over Cox-1 (IC50 = 200-280 μM). 6-Methoxy-2-Naphthylacetic acid is a metabolite of Nabumetone with potential analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. 6-Methoxy-2-Naphthylacetic acid has been shown to alter the pharmacokinetics and brain accumulation of IMP in monkeys. 6-Methoxy-2-Naphthylacetic acid was able to decrease reactive oxygen species creation in polymorphonuclear leukocytes. Evidence points out that 6-Methoxy-2-Naphthylacetic acid is phototoxic in vitro.
