QUICK LINKS

6-Hydroxydopamine hydrochloride is a selective catecholaminergic neurotoxin. It depletes brain catecholamine levels via uptake and accumulation by a transport mechanism specific to these neurons. It causes almost complete destruction of nigral dopaminergic neurons and their striatal terminals when injected into the substantia nigra of rats, producing an animal model of Parkinson′s disease.

how long we can store the 6-ohda solution ?

Asked by: ullah16
Thank you for your question. This biochemical substance should not be stored as a solution, it should be used upon dissolving. It is very easily oxidized, and the formed byproducts can appear very dark/gray.

I stored the powder in -20 freezer. I made 6ug/uL solution in saline with 0.1% ascorbic acid. The solution looked a little bit reddish. However, I found the solution looks more clear with the same concentration recently. It does not look as red as before.

Thank you for your question. sc-203482, 6-Hydroxydopamine hydrochloride should not be stored as a solution. 6-Hydroxydopamine hydrochloride is very easily oxidized, not to a very high degree, but the formed byproducts are very dark indeed, so the solution rapidly turns grey.
