QUICK LINKS

6-Aminonicotinamide is an inhibitor of the NADP+-dependent enzyme, PGD (6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase). Studies have also shown that 6-aminonicotinamide induces apoptosis in tumor cells and causes glial cell degeneration. 6-Aminonicotinamide′s precise mechanism of action remains largely unexplored, yet it is thought to function as a nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) pathway agonist, which plays a vital role in numerous cellular activities like energy metabolism, DNA repair, and apoptosis. Furthermore, the compound inhibits enzymes such as histone deacetylases (HDACs), DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs), and protein kinase C (PKC). These enzymes are instrumental in governing gene expression, potentially accounting for the impact of 6-Aminonicotinamide on cell growth and differentiation.
