5-Fluorodihydropyrimidine-2,4-dione is a chemical compound that functions as a potent inhibitor of the enzyme dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD). This inhibition leads to the disruption of the catabolism of pyrimidine, ultimately resulting in the accumulation of toxic metabolites within the cell. 5-Fluorodihydropyrimidine-2,4-dione interferes with the normal cellular processes and induces cytotoxic effects. 5-Fluorodihydropyrimidine-2,4-dione exerts its mechanism of action by binding to the active site of DPD, thereby preventing the enzyme from carrying out its catalytic function.
