Lauric Acid, a 12 carbon saturated fatty acid, may act to be incorporated into rat hepatocytes at a higher preference to other cellular lipids. Other murine studies have suggested that this compound is a substrate for acylation of certain proteins. Saturated fatty acids have been reported to be essential for biological activities of lipopolysaccharides and have demonstrated the ability to induce expression of COX-2 and NFkappaB (nuclear factor kappaB) activation. Lauric Acid is a substrate of CYP4A11.
