Fluconazole is a triazole broad-spectrum antifungal agent which is effective against Candida spp., cryptococcus neoformans and dermatophytes. Fluconazole is an inhibitor of CYP2C19, CYP2C9 and CYP3A4. Fluconazole functions by suppressing the production of ergosterol, a vital constituent of the fungal cell membrane. By impeding ergosterol synthesis, the integrity of the fungal cell membrane is compromised, ultimately resulting in fungal death. Moreover, Fluconazole hinders the activity of cytochrome P450 enzymes.
