5-Aminosalicylic Acid, the metabolite of sulphasalazine, may act to inhibit PGDH (prostaglandin 15-hydroxydehydrogenase) in human placenta and bovine lung. Further studies show that this antiinflammatory compound also inhibits leukotriene formation in human leukocytes. Additionally, 5-Aminosalicylic acid demonstrates the ability to disrupt TNFalpha (tumor necrosis factor alpha)-stimulated NFkappaB (nuclear factor kappaB) activation via inhibition of the multimeric IkappaB kinase regulating complex.
