5,5i difluoro Bapta(K+ Salt) is a low affinity, cell-impermeable non-fluorescent Ca2+ indicator (Kd = 640 nM). This fluorinated BAPTA derivative may be used for NMR analysis of Ca2+ in live cells and tissues in addition to optical imaging studies. BAPTA and its derivatives are calcium chelators that are commonly used to form calcium buffers with well-defined calcium concentrations. BAPTA chelators provide an important means to study the roles of calcium in cells. The AM ester forms of the BAPTA chelators allow for control of the cytosolic calcium concentrations when injected into or incubated with cells. Key advantages of these calcium chelators include relative insensitivity toward intracellular pH change and fast release of calcium.
