5,5-Dimethyl-2,4-oxazolidinedione is a reactant involved in the synthesis of nickel benzoannulated or naphthoannulated beta-oxatetraazachlorin complex. It can also be used as a cathepsin K inhibitor. While the precise mechanism of action of 5,5-Dimethyl-2,4-oxazolidinedione remains partially understood, it is hypothesized that the compound functions as an inhibitor of voltage-gated sodium channels. These channels play a role in the generation and propagation of electrical signals that regulate the activity of nerve cells.
