5-(3-Iodopropoxy)-2-nitrobenzyl alcohol is a functionalized nitrophenol compound used as a photolabile solid-support linker. 5-(3-Iodopropoxy)-2-nitrobenzyl alcohol is functionalized with an alkyl iodide phenolic ether and an aryl hydroxymethyl group, permitting bidirectional functionalization between a compound of interest and a solid support. This approach has been used to great effect in solid phase oligosaccharide synthesis, where the elaborated oligosaccharide was liberated from the solid support by photolytic cleavage at the 5-(3-Iodopropoxy)-2-nitrobenzyl alcohol linker. 5-(3-Iodopropoxy)-2-nitrobenzyl alcohol has also been used to link compounds to photosensitive magnetic nanoparticles in the design of multifunctional drug-delivery vehicles.
