4-Nitrophenyl N-acetyl-alpha-D-galactosaminide is a chromogenic substrate for N-acetyl-D-galactosaminidase, generating a yellow solution upon N-acetyl-D-galactosaminidase catalyzed cleavage of N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc). It may act to inhibit the binding of certain carbohydrates to lectins and the activity of certain glycosyltransferases. This compound has been used in a variety of scientific research applications, including enzyme kinetics, protein-carbohydrate interactions, and structural studies.
