4-Nitrophenyl laurate is a pale yellow crystalline substance and belongs to the 4-nitrophenyl ester group of compounds. These compounds are employed as markers in assays for lipase and esterase enzymes. While it has limited solubility in water, 4-Nitrophenyl laurate dissolves in organic solvents such as ethanol, methanol, and acetonitrile. In the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology, it′s extensively used to measure the activity of lipases and esterases in a variety of biological samples, including plasma, serum, tissue mixtures, and cell breakdown products. Additionally, this assay is useful for identifying potential modulators, either inhibitors or enhancers, of these enzymes.
