4-Nitrophenyl β-D-cellopentaoside is composed of 5 D-glucose monomers linked via β glycosidic bonds with 4-nitrophenyl (p-nitrophenyl) bound to the hydroxyl group of the anomeric carbon at the head of the oligosaccharide. This compound is analgous to a short chain of cellulose that has been derivatized with a 4-nitrophenyl group, and might be useful in studies involving cellulase enzymes.
