4-Methylumbelliferyl Phosphate (4-MUP) is an important compound in biochemistry and molecular biology. It is an ester of phosphoric acid and 4-methylumbelliferone (4-MU), an aromatic hydrocarbon. 4-Methylumbelliferyl Phosphate is used in a variety of biochemical and physiological studies, particularly in the field of enzymology. For example, it is employed in kinetic studies of alkaline phosphatase as it is a fluorogenic substrate for PP2 (calmodulin-dependent protein phosphatase). 4-Methylumbelliferyl Phosphate is used to measure the activity of enzymes like phosphatases, kinases, and proteases, as well as other proteins such as receptors and transporters, and even certain metabolic pathways like the urea cycle. It is also used in the synthesis of a variety of compounds, such as peptides and nucleotides. In addition, the compound has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects.
