QUICK LINKS

4-Methylumbelliferyl α-L-Idopyranosiduronic Acid 2-Sulfate Disodium Salt is a fluorogenic substrate used in biochemistry research for the assay of enzyme activity, specifically α-L-iduronidase. This enzyme is significant in the degradation of glycosaminoglycans, and the compound is used in enzyme activity assays to measure the breakdown of its glycosidic bond. Upon hydrolysis by α-L-iduronidase, the compound releases a highly fluorescent 4-methylumbelliferone moiety, which can be quantified using a fluorometer. This property makes it particularly useful for studying the kinetics of the enzyme and for understanding lysosomal storage diseases where α-L-iduronidase activity is deficient or absent. Additionally, in environmental research, this compound aids in the monitoring of microbial degradation of sulfated polysaccharides in various ecosystems. The compound′s ability to act as a specific substrate for the enzyme under investigation allows for high-throughput screening and characterization of α-L-iduronidase variants and potential modulators.

Hello, I am planning to resuspend this reagent in water at 1 o 2 mg/ml. Can it be stored at -20/-80C and used it again after thawing? My other question is: can I resuspend it directly in assay buffer (0.1M NaAcetate, 10mM PbAcetate, ph5.0)?

Asked by: Marco
Thank you for contacting Santa Cruz Biotechnology. At this time, we do not have detailed solubility or stability data .

How is this material best solubilized as stock solution. thanks

Asked by: alex22
The solubility of the product is as slightly soluble in Water, and slightly in Methanol. When we say ‘Slightly’ soluble, that means that between 1-10 mg of the product is able to dissolve in 1 ml of the specified solvent. So, solubility should be quite well in these two solvents.
