QUICK LINKS

4-Hydroxyphenyl glyoxal modifies arginine residues to give a large increase in absorbance at approximately 340 nm, and hence, is a good choice for amino acid side chain modification. When used in the presence of proteins or peptides, 4-Hydroxyphenyl glyoxal can react with arginine residues, allowing researchers to probe the involvement of these residues in the function of the protein or peptide. This can be particularly useful when studying protein-protein interactions, enzyme active sites, or other situations where the role of arginine is of interest. It′s a tool for identifying and studying the role of specific amino acid residues in larger biomolecules.
