4-Hydroxy-1H-benzotriazole is used in the synthesis of many organic compounds. It acts as a chelating agent, forming coordination complexes with metal ions. These complexes can be used to catalyze a variety of reactions, including oxidation and reduction reactions. 4-Hydroxy-1H-benzotriazole can also act as a ligand, binding to proteins and enzymes and modulating their activity. It has been found to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and neuroprotective properties.
