Arcyriaflavin A is a potent inhibitor of CDK4/cyclin D1 (IC50 = 59nM). It inhibits human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) replication in cell culture (IC50 = 200nM). Arcyriaflavin A is also a CaMKII inhibitor. Arcyriaflavin A, a natural polyether compound, exhibits cytotoxic properties against cancer cells. It is found in endometrial tissue. Additionally, it hinders the interaction between growth factors and their receptors or other cell surface proteins involved in cell signaling pathways. These effects may arise from its capacity to enhance reactive oxygen species production and inhibit protein synthesis by preventing the phosphorylation of eIF2α.
